JAMES PETER CANNELL, 92 GARDEN PRAIRIE - James Peter Cannell, 92, departed from this earth Saturday, Aug. 27, 2011, in his Garden Prairie home. Jim was born March 8, 1919, to Adam and Mary Hazel on their Winnebago farm, and graduated from St. Thomas High School in 1936. He farmed with his dad, then his brother, until he married Luraine Johnson on Jan. 29, 1946. After farming in Winnebago for a year, they bought a farm south of Capron, where they lived and farmed the rest of their 65 years together. Jim went from dairying to beef to farming only crops. He worked hard and wisely to send all four daughters to the University of Illinois and build up a wonderful farm. He enjoyed all the activities of his children and grandchildren. Jim generously served his community as Capron State Bank board president, Boone County Board chairman, Capron School board president, Farm Bureau board vice president, Illinois Agriculture Association director, Livestock Feeders Association president, and as a participant in many other organizations. Survived by wife, Luraine; daughters, Lois Ramon of Belvidere, Carol (Jerry) Falzone of Loves Park, Julie (Marshall) Newhouse of Capron and Ann (Richard) Carrick of Belvidere; grandchildren, Allison, Scott, Lindsey, Eileen, Leanne, Philip, Kathryn, Bethany, Emily and Molly; great-granddaughters, Evelyn and Julia; one great-grandbaby to arrive any day; sister-in-law, Ces Cannell; numerous nieces and nephews.
