JAMES D. CUMMINGS ROSCOE - James D. Cummings died on Monday, March 24, 2014, at Wesley Willows, Rockford. He was a lifelong resident of Roscoe, IL, where he was born January 31, 1921 to Leon and Nellie Cummings. After graduating from Hononegah High School, he completed an apprenticeship to be a machinist at Fairbanks Morse in Beloit, Wis. He worked for many years as a machinist in the Rockford area and in later years from his home in Roscoe. He married Vera Maxine Geddes on September 19, 1942. He was drafted and served in the 1st Armored Division, Combat Infantry in Italy from 1943 to 1946. His hobbies over his lifetime included stamp collecting, woodworking and a love of history that evolved into a passion for genealogy. He was a loving father, grandfather, brother and husband. He will be greatly missed by his friends and family. Survived by daughters, Cheryl (Peter) Bagley, Jacki (Robert) Poulson and Pamela (Timothy) Johnson; grandchildren, Christine (Patrick) Taylor, River Bagley, Uriah (Emily) Bagley, Leah Bagley, Tara Bagley, Elias Poulson (Venesha Rems), Nellie (George) Foster, Esther Poulson, Gavin Johnson and Sean (Elyse) Johnson; great-grandchildren, Tavon, Jasmine, Zaine, Amarah, Isla, Charlotte, Gabriel, Rouge, Cattleya, Eli and Micah; sister, Elaine (Glen) Gabel; and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his wife, Vera Maxine Cummings and parents, Leon and Nellie Cummings. Funeral service will be at 5:30 p.m. Friday, March 28, 2014, in Life Church, 5910 Elevator Road, Roscoe, IL 61073, with a visitation from 4 p.m. until service time. Pastor Scott Gipson will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Life Church Food Pantry or Roscoe Fire Department.
