JAMES M. DILLOW, 40 SHANNON - James M. Dillow, 40, of Shannon died Monday, Dec. 10, 2012, while serving his community as a REACT flight nurse. Jim was born Aug. 29, 1972, the son of James and Janice (Stoner) Dillow. He was a 1990 graduate of Eastland High School. He continued his education at Bob Jones University in Greenville, S.C., and graduated from St. Anthony College of Nursing in Rockford. Jim married Rachel Cruz on Aug. 20, 1994, in Shannon. Jim was a member of Shannon Baptist Church. He was a flight nurse for REACT of Rockford Memorial Hospital for 11 years. He was also employed at FHN Memorial Hospital as nursing supervisor. Jim was well known for being hardworking, organized, generous, and a practical joker. He enjoyed photography, dancing, gardening, and music - especially playing his piano. He especially enjoyed shopping for Christmas which was his favorite holiday, and he loved finding a good deal. Of all the things Jim enjoyed, the most important was spending time with his family. He was a compassionate, fun-loving, and adventurous dad involved in a number of activities with his children, from playing dress-up to going hunting. He is survived by his wife, Rachel; daughters, Shelby and Libby; sons, Gabriel and Jacob; parents, James and Janice of Shannon; sisters, Deanne (Paul) Rose of Shannon, Vickie Meinsma and Julie (John) Liles, both of Lanark, and Jamie (Scott) White of Rock City; father and mother-in-law, Sebastian and Jean Cruz of North Carolina; sister-in-law, Gina (Brad) Walker of Virginia; several nieces and nephews, Justin (Ashley) Wolber, Kristy (Jim) Dowling, Desiree (Travis) Holz, Michael Rose, Breanna Rose, Kayla (Derek) Carroll, Bryce Meinsma, Brett Meinsma, Autumn White, Ethan White, Courtney Walker and Margaret Walker. Predeceased by grandparents, William and Myrtle Dillow and David and Cecil Stoner. Funeral at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 15, at Eastland Middle School, 601 S. Chestnut St., Shannon. Internment in Brethren Cemetery, Shannon. Visitation from 4:30 to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 14, at the middle school. There will be a walk through honoring James by the EMS and fire department at 7:30 p.m. A separate memorial service will be held at a later date to honor all three of the fallen heroes.
