JAMES 'JIM' LARSON ROSCOE - We announce with heartfelt sadness the passing of our father and friend, James "Jim" Larson, on Labor Day, September 2, 2013. It is a struggle to find words that can match his gentle wit, his abiding faith in people, and the enduring love he had for his country. Everyone who knew our father recognizes what a good man he was and how much he cared for his family, friends and community. Family and friends were essential to Jim. Born January 14, 1943, Jim is predeceased by his father, Harold "Red" Larson, his mother, Ruth Larson Crockett, and his stepfather, David Crockett. His brothers, Tom, Bill and Steve were the cornerstones of his life. Jim's three children with his former wife, Carol Pete - Monica, Danielle and Brett - were his greatest achievement and loving challenge. Jim always said he was lucky to be a member of the Hononegah class of 1961, and cherished his classmates - friends who remained with him throughout his life. Staff Sergeant Larson defended his country proudly, serving from 1964-1968 in the U.S. Air Force. He served in Vietnam with the 616th squadron Military Airlift Command from 1966-1967, and was recognized as Airman of the Year in 1966 for his outstanding service. Jim laughed easily and loved a good story, a day spent fishing and the freedom of the open road. He traveled many roads, from the early days of gravel on Hunter Road, on to Green Street in Rockton, westward to the Bay Area of Northern California, and south to the sweet life of Memphis. Yet his own road always led him back to Roscoe/Rockton and "the folks on Elevator Road," for whom he cared devotedly in their last years. Jim's life was filled with a passion for hot cars and cards, cool streams and music, and eternal hope for the Cubs and the Bears. He made time to engage every person he met with kind words and thoughtful intent, living his 70 years in the glow of friendship, service and love. Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. Tuesday, September 10, at Honquest Family Funeral Home with Crematory, Roscoe Chapel, 11342 Main Street, Roscoe, IL.
