JOHNNY LEE DEVEREUEAWAX LOVES PARK - Johnny Lee Devereueawax of Loves Park, departed this earthly life Monday, April 22, 2013, in his home. He was born October 19, 1953, in Brandon, Mississippi; the son of Johnny and Dora Devereueawax. John lived in Rockford since 1976, coming from Mississippi. He married the former Penny Johnson November 2, 1985. John was employed by the Rockford Board of Education several years as a coordinator of Minority Affairs, and for the City of Rockford 13 years as 13th Ward Alderman before retiring in 1993. He also had several personal business ventures. John was a member of Christian Union Full Gospel Church Ministries. He was a former member of the Welcome Star Lodge #36 PHA, F&AM. He graduated from Pearl High School in Mississippi and received his Bachelors Degree in Political Science from Jackson State University. John leaves to cherish many loving memories, his devoted wife, Penny; three sons, Andre Price, Johnny L. (Pam) Devereueawax IV and Jonathan (Brittany) Devereueawax; four daughters, Brandi Brown, Marie (Julius) Coates, Javelle and Domonique Devereueawax; 15 grandchildren; sisters, Peggy (James) Braggs, Anna Lee Devereueawax; brother, Jessie (Fannie Mae) Washington; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, and brothers, Lonnie Devereueawax and Wardell Washington. Services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, April 26, at Christian Union Full Gospel Church Ministries, 1705 Kilburn Avenue, with the Bishop Leonard James officiating. Entombment in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until the time of service. Arrangements completed by Carl E. Ponds Funeral Home, 2429 W. State Street.
