Joseph Dixon Obituary
JOSEPH 'JOE' DIXON ROCKFORD - Today we pause to give our last farewell to Mr. Joseph "Joe" Dixon. He was born April 6, 1941 in Phoenix City, AL to the parentage of Mr. Clifford and Katherine Dixon. He departed from his earthly home on December 20, 2013 amidst those who loved him most. "Joe" was a trusted friend and was loved by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. He took much pride in his family and loved ones. He was a hard worker and displayed an ex-emplary work ethic throughout his lifetime. He was highly respected and viewed as a strong positive example and fixture in his family and community. Jo-seph matriculated through the Phoenix City school dis-trict and graduated from Oliver High School Class of 1959. Joseph later relocated to Rockford, IL and married the love of his life the for-mer Mary Bell, December 21, 1963. Upon his relocation to Illinois he was a dedi-cated and diligent worker and was last employed as a Union Steward by Chrysler Corporation for 35 years un-til his retirement in January of 2000. Joseph was an ac-tive and faithful member of the Israel of God Church serving as a Deacon and Fi-nancial Auditor. Joseph was also a member of the Wel-come Star Lodge #36 PHA F&AM. He was preceded in death by his father, Mr. Clif-ford Dixon; his brother, Mr. Clifford Dixon; and grand-mother, Ms. Elisabeth Wat-kins, whom he loved dearly. He leaves to cherish his memory, a loving and de-voted wife of 49 years, Mrs. Mary Dixon; three sons, Pastor Joseph Anthony (Laurita) Dixon, Maurice Darnell Dixon, Marvin Ladell Dixon; nine grand-children, Antonio (Sho-shana) Hubbard, Anthony (Laura) Dixon, Derrick Dixon, Joshua (Caress) Dixon, Mary (Carlos) Woodard, Marvin Ladell Dixon Jr., Ray'zen Dixon and Mone't Dixon; sixteen great-grandchildren; two nieces, Antonette Dixon and Annette Dixon and a host of cousins and friends. Joseph will be tremendously and sorely missed by all those who knew and loved him. Services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, December 28, at Israel of God Church 916 Harding Street with Bishop Donald Sims officiat-ing. Burial in Sunset Memo-rial Gardens. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. Arrange-ments completed by Carl E. Ponds Funeral Home 2429 W. State St.
