Joseph Sciortino Obituary

Joseph S. Sciortino, 94 Beloved Father and Nanu ROCKFORD - Joseph S. Sciortino, 94, of Rockford passed away peacefully Friday, April 22, 2011. Born Dec. 7, 1916, in Rockford, the son of Salvatore and Rose (Torretta) Sciortino. Joseph married Mary Monestero on April 20, 1941, in Rockford; she died Aug. 18, 2009. Joseph was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, son and brother. Family was everything to him. He worked at Rockford Clutch as a tool and die maker for 45 years and at Vince's Paint and Hardware for 20 years. Joseph was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church. He was a member and past treasurer of Rockford Clutch Retirees Local 803 and Young Seniors of St. Anthony. Survived by son, Salvatore (Sharon) Sciortino DDS of Rockford; daughter, Rosemary (Jerry) Sciortino-Bloom of Cherry Valley; grandchildren, Joseph Sciortino of Rockford and Jennifer (Christopher) Sciortino-Watt of Grangemouth, Scotland; great-grandchildren, Dylan and Haley Sciortino; and numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by wife, Mary; parents; sister, Angie Ciochetti; and brother, Carl Sciortino. Special thanks to the doctors and staff at Rosewood Care Center and Passages Hospice for their kind and compassionate care. Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 4, in St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 1010 Ferguson St., with visitation from 9 to 10 a.m. The Franciscan Friars will officiate. Burial in Calvary Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established at a later date. Arrangements by Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Road.
