KATHLEEN 'KAY' J. JOHNSON, 86 ROCKFORD - Kathleen "Kay" J. Johnson, 86, of Rockford passed away Sunday, Feb. 17, 2013. Born Sept. 16, 1926, to Erick and Mildred (Provasi) Johnson. She married Chester "Bud" Johnson on June 5, 1976. She graduated from East High School in 1944, and St. Anthony School of Nursing in 1947. She was employed in the surgical department at St. Anthony Hospital for 25 years and was a member of the A.O.R.N. Association. She was proud of being a hard-working team member on the first open heart procedure performed in Rockford. Following the Belvidere tornado she worked 48 straight hours in surgery. She was a member of Alpine Lutheran Church. She loved her family and friends and would always have a positive message to give. She was known for her bright smile and cheerful disposition. Survivors include her sons, Michael (Elizabeth) Elrick, Dennis (Sharon) Elrick and Larry Johnson; grandchildren, Guin Mathey, Chad Anderson, Britteny Elrick and Jeremy Reskis; great-grandchildren, Alex, Max, Danielle, Ali, Jared and Rachel; great-great-grandchild, Isaiah; and many nieces and nephews, all of whom loved her very much. Predeceased by her husband, Chester "Bud" Johnson; parents; and sister, Elaine McDowell. Service at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, at Alpine Lutheran Church, 5001 Forest View Ave., Rockford, with visitation from 10 a.m. to service time; Pastor Woody Knutson will officiate. Burial in Arlington Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the church or Stateline Youth for Christ.
