LENNART A. FORSGREN, 86 BELVIDERE - Lennart A. Forsgren, 86, of Belvidere, died Friday, Feb. 8, 2013, in OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center. Born Sept. 25, 1926, in Vasteros, Sweden; the son of Paul and Margit (Johansson) Forsgren. Served as a Corporal in the Swedish Army during World War II. Completed his schooling in Malmo, Sweden in 1950. He married Virginia M. Sjoblom on Jan. 23, 1954, in Rockford. Lennart was the first soil and milk tester in the area for the Farm Bureau after his arrival in Rockford. He was the owner of Forsgren Professional Landscaping for 47 years, and was recognized throughout northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin for his work. He accumulated numerous awards and recognition for his landscaping expertise, which was also his passion. Lennart and his wife began attending First Assembly of God Church, now Rockford First Church, under the ministry of the Rev. Ernest Moen. They enjoyed traveling to the Holy Land, Sweden, Arizona, and numerous other destinations. He was a member of Illinois Landscape Association, American Nursery Men's Association, Rockford Men's Garden Club, and Vasa Order of America. He is survived by his wife, Virginia; daughter, Denise (Alan) Fielder of Rockford; grandchildren, Emilie and Erik Fielder, and Michael and Kristina Forsgren and their mother, Jan; as well as many relatives in Sweden and Rockford. Predeceased by his son, Steven; sister, Anna Marie; and brother, Lars. Funeral service at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 16, in Rockford First Church, 5950 Spring Creek Road, with Pastor Bob Taylor officiating. Burial in Scandinavian Cemetery. Visitation from 11 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. prior to the service in the church (please enter from the Spring Creek Road entrance).
