Leo Olszewski Obituary

LEO L. OLSZEWSKI, 90 ROCKFORD - Leo L. Olszewski, 90, of Rockford died Tuesday, May 17, 2011, at SwedishAmerican Hospital. Born Jan. 5, 1921, in Mosinee, Wis., the son of Joseph and Sophia (Felox) Olszewski. Served as an Army corporal during World War II. Married his loving wife, Gladys L. Zovitowski on June 19, 1943, in Chicago. Moved to Rockford in 1946 and worked for Caldwell Co., as a foreman and at Rockford Screw Products retiring in 1962. Member of St. Edward Catholic Church. He loved to work in his vegetable garden and enjoyed fishing. Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Gladys; sons, Terry (Rose) Olszewski of Rockford and Gary (Sharon) Olszewski of Rochelle; grandchildren, Holly (Martin) Woessner of Michigan, Robbie (Brittany) Olszewski of Rochelle and Katie Olszewski of Rockford; great-grandchildren, Zahra and Natalie; sister, Mary Safron; sisters-in-law, Charlotte and Jean Olszewski; and numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents, and 12 siblings. Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 21, at St. Edward Catholic Church. Interment in Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Winnebago. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, May 20, at Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Road, with a rosary recited at 7 p.m. Visitation also from 9 a.m. Saturday to time of prayer at 9:45 a.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials to: Father Emmett Memorial, c/o St. Edward Catholic Church, 3004 11th St., Rockford, IL 61109. Extend online condolences at: www.fitzgeraldfh.com.
