M. Irene Thompson Obituary
m. irene thompson, 93 ROCKFORD - M. Irene Thompson, 93, of Rockford died Friday, Jan. 4, 2013, in OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center. Born Aug. 24, 1919, in Stratford, Okla., daughter of A. Perry and Myrtle J. (Calton) Cantwell. Rockford resident since 1956, coming here from Oklahoma City. Married C.L. Thompson on Dec. 20, 1944, in Seminole, Okla. She was a member of Central Christian Church. Also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of VFW Post 9759 and Loves Park Chapter 1027, Order of Eastern Star and the Rockford Chapter of the D.A.R. In 1983, she retired as secretary from the physical education department of Rock Valley College after 18 years. Irene was a genteel southern lady. She was an elegant woman who always extended social graces to everyone. Survivors include her husband of 68 years, C.L.; daughter, Inis (Charles A.) Bloomster; son, Paul L. Thompson; granddaughters, Holley (Greg) Phillips and Julie (Nick) Olmstead; great-grandchildren, Karley and Sidney Phillips and Mattison, Caden, Brennan and Brooklyn Olmstead; and niece, Lanita (Kent) Maggert. Predeceased by her parents; brother, Jack; and great-granddaughter, Alexis Olmstead. The family would like to thank the exceptional staff on 3-East at OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center and Dr. Steven DiSanti and his staff for the loving care that was given to Irene and her family. Service to celebrate Irene's life at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 8, in Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Road, with Sherm Nichols officiating. Burial in Highland Garden of Memories, Belvidere. Visitation from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 7, in the funeral home, and from noon Tuesday to time of service.
