MACK W. EVANS ROCKFORD - Mack W. Evans, of Rockford departed this earthly life Wednesday, March 27, 2013, at Alma Nelson Debes Subacute Center, after a short illness. He was born January 9, 1927, in Sallis, MS, the son of Mack and Lela Pearl Evans. Mack lived in Rockford over 67 years, coming from Sallis, MS. He married the former Dorothy Horton on August 5, 1951, she preceded him in death. Mack was employed as a molder by National Grey Iron Foundry in Belvidere 30 years before retiring. He was a founding member of St. Paul Church of God in Christ, serving on the Deacons Board. He attended school in Mississippi. Mack leaves to cherish many loving memories, two daughters, Anita (Lee) Fricks and ViAnne Evans; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Daisy Lee Harmon and Lela D. (Sonny) Thurman; a host of other relatives and friends including special nephews, Charles Evans and Mark Thurman; and special niece, LaNeeda Evans. He was predeceased by his wife; parents; three sisters; and three brothers. Special thanks to the staff of Nelson Debes Subacute Center. Services at noon Saturday, April 6, at St. Paul Church of God in Christ, 1001 Bishop Washington Ave. Burial in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation from 10 a.m. Saturday to time of service. Arrangements completed by Carl E. Ponds Funeral Home, 2429 W. State St.
