MARY E. LUCAS, 93 ROCKFORD - Mary E. Lucas, 93, of Rockford, went to be with her Lord and Savior at 1:53 p.m. Sunday, April 21, 2013, in Fairhaven Christian Retirement Center. Born Feb. 9, 1920, in Hammond, Ind.; the daughter of Albert and Eulalia (Terry) Fischer. Rockford resident since 1989. Married Jasper M. "Jim" Lucas June 11, 1961, in Lowell, Ind. He predeceased her Sept. 20, 1990, in Rockford. Mary served during World War II in SPARS. Attended Hammond High School and Purdue University, class of 1941. Retired chemical analyst for Union Carbide Chemical Company. Member of the Suburban Bible Church in Highland, Ind. She was a woman of great faith and a prayer warrior for her friends and the Fairhaven staff. This verse was found tucked in her Bible: "O How blessed is the promise When our spirit is set free; To be absent from the body Means to live, O Lord, with Thee."
