Mattie Pearl Yancey-Barbary 1933—2018
Mattie Pearl Yancey-Barbary of Rockford departed this earthly life Sunday, September 2, 2018, in her home. She was born October 22, 1933, in Smithville, Georgia; the daughter of Enoch and Ruby Yancey. Mattie lived in Rockford since 1948, coming here from Jacksonville, Florida. She married Jackson Barbary March 28, 1949, in Rockford, who preceded her in death. Mattie was a member of the Jehovah's Witnesses for over 56 years, worshiping with the West congregation. She attended schools in Jacksonville, Florida. Mattie leaves to cherish many loving memories, five sons, Jack (Erma), Dexter, Glenn (Tina), Johnathan, and Russell (Jamie) Barbary; five daughters, Rose ( Anthony) Lewis, Doris (Larry) Ford, Denise and Delores Barbary and Eartha (Maurice) Williams; 33 grandchildren; a host of great and great-great-grandchildren; a host of other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her parents; husband; daughter, Mary Sanders; son, Nathaniel Barbary; and four grandchildren; two sisters and four brothers.
Services will be held 3 p.m. Saturday, September 8, 2018, at Jehovah's Witness Kingdom Hall, 3625 W. Riverside Blvd. Burial in Cedar Bluff Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2 p.m. until the time of service. Arrangements completed by Carl E. Ponds Funeral Home, 200 N. Johnston Avenue.
