MICHAEL LLOYD HART ROCKFORD - Michael Lloyd Hart, died June 22nd 2013 on Andros Island in the Bahamas. Born June 8th 1945 to James Lloyd and Virginia E. "June " Chappell Hart in Poplar Bluff Missouri. Mike graduated from Rockford Auburn High School in 1963 where he was all state in football and was awarded a scholarship to Iowa Wesleyan University. He later attended Northern Illinois and Western Illinois University where he got his bachelors degree in Police Administration, Sociology and Psychology. After college Mike served on the Rockford Police Department for a number of years. Mike opened Mike's Horse Shoe Bar in 1971 which was a favorite night spot in Rockford until 1978. He also owned the Elbow Room on Broadway. Mike was then employed by the State of Illinois-Bureau of special investigations for 4 years. Mike then started Mike Hart Trucking where he was an owner operator. He operated Mike Hart Trucking until 2005 when he left Rockford and took a position at the Atlantic Underwater Test and Evaluation Center (AUTEC) on Andros Island in The Bahamas. His last position was as purchasing agent for the Base Exchange. Mike was at home in the Bahamas as he loved sailing, fishing and diving. Mike enjoyed the water and his boating. One of his hobbies was exploring the many different out Islands in the Bahamas. Mike also loved to fly and was secretary of the Black hawk flying club in Rockford for several years. He was also a member of the Lombardi club where he had many close friends. Earlier in life Mike was an avid hunter and loved the fall weather in the woods. He took many trips to Canada where he would fish for walleye. Mike enjoyed his snowmobiling. Mike was an avid sportsman and Green Bay Packer fan his entire life. He was the most honest and trustworthy person and always strived to do everything the right way. Survivors include double cousins, Cheri (Ken) Stavlund of Sun City Arizona, Debbie June Hart of Vero Beach Florida and Harry (Butch) Hart of San Jose Costa Rica. He is also survived by several cousins and many good friends, too numerous to mention. Mike was predeceased by his Mother and father. Visitation from 10 a.m. until noon, Tuesday, July 9, at Julian-Poorman-Welte Funeral Home. Memorial reflections at noon by family and friends. Burial to follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
