MICHELE TEGLAND, 46 ROSCOE - Michele Tegland, 46, of Roscoe died at 12:08 a.m. Friday, Oct. 14, 2011, at home, surrounded by friends and family. She was born Feb. 24, 1965, in Detroit, Mich., to Mary "Mimi" (Langel) and J. Maurice DesRosiers. Graduated from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, with a bachelor's degree in English in 1987. While at the University of Michigan, Michele was a member of the Delta Gamma Sorority. She completed her Master in Education at Northern Illinois University and was in the Educational Leadership and Policy Studies doctoral program at the University of Illinois, Champaign. Michele had a very successful business career with Proctor & Gamble and IBM, which she left when called to be an educator and serve children and teachers. She began her education career at Lathrop Elementary School in Rockford, before joining the Harlem School District, where she served as a teacher, technology coordinator and principal (Loves Park Elementary School). She combined her marketing and education experience as a solutions consultant for Houghton Mifflin Learning Technologies. Throughout her career, Michele was known for her servant leadership, innovation and passion. She loved working with children and was dedicated to making schools a place where both young people and adults would thrive. Michele is survived by daughter, Emily Tegland (14); mother, Mimi DesRosiers of Bloomingdale; and father, Maurice (Jean) DesRosiers of North Carolina; sister, Denise (Kalid) Hassoun of Addison; brother, Greg DesRosiers of Chicago; nieces and nephews, Lemise, Brielle, Connor, Mason, Hunter and Lincoln; numerous aunts and uncles; father of Emily, Ed Tegland; and numerous special friends and family members. Michele's memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 21, at Heartland Community Church, 1208 S. Alpine Road, Rockford. Memorials may be made to the Delta Gamma Foundation.
