MIECZYSLAW 'MATT' DOMANSKI, 89 ROCKFORD - Mieczyslaw "Matt" Domanski, 89, of Rockford died Thursday December 19, 2013, after a long illness. He was born October 16, 1924, in Gielczyn, Poland; the son of Stanislaw and Helena Domanski. He was a Veteran of the Polish Army. In February 1940, he was deported with his family to Siberia. He worked for two and a half years in a Russian Labor Camp. With the outbreak of the war between Russia and Germany, he received amnesty and joined the Polish Forces in Southern Russia. He left Russia for the Middle East to fight under British Command. In 1946, he left Italy for England to be resettled to civilian life. In July of 1949 he married Teresa Konopka. They were married for 64 years. In 1955, he and his wife and two little daughters came to Rockford. In Rockford he was employed as an assembler by Cotta Transmission for 30 years. He was a member of St. Stanislaus Church. Matt was an avid gardener, woodworker and most of all a loving family man. Survivors include wife, Teresa; daughters, Barbara (Richard) Lundberg and Halina (Dennis) Head; grandchildren, Carolyn (David) Feuer and Lauren Watson; great-grandchild, Dylan Feuer; brother, Marian; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his brothers, Stanislaw, Joseph and Zygmunt; and sister, Alina. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday, December 23, 2013, in St. Stanislaus Church, with Fr. Dariusz Barna officiating. Interment to follow in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be in Gasparini & Oliveri Funeral Home from 1 until 4 p.m. Sunday, December 22, 2013, with a rosary recited at 2:30 p.m. Friends may call again Monday morning in the church from 9:30 a.m. until service time.
