Mildred Fraser

MILDRED CABLE FRASER ROCKFORD - Mildred Cable Fraser died Aug. 27, 2010, after a long illness. Born June 29, 1922 to V. Howard and Mary E. (Kolifrath) Weir in Rockford. She was a graduate of St. James Grade School, Muldoon High School and Marquette University. Married John Cable in 1944 at the Pro-Cathedral of St. James in Rockford. They had four children and lived in Milwaukee, Oconomowoc, Wis., and Cincinnati. He died in 1968, and she moved back to Rockford. She married William Fraser in 1971; they were very active with Charismatic Renewal in the Rockford Diocese. He died in 1974. She worked first as a medical technologist and then in the earth science department of Rock Valley College, retiring after 25 years in 1993. She spent all of her life loving and serving God, and caring for members of her family and God's family. Mildred was a Eucharistic Minister in St. James Parish, ministering to hospitalized and homebound people for many years. Survived by sons, Bill (Christine) Cable of Annapolis, Md., Tom (Marie) Cable of Okauchee, Wis., and John (Norma) Cable of Tucson, Ariz.; daughter, Jane (Owen) Phelps of Durand; grandchildren, Kristin (Nic) Guehlstorf, Erik (Robin) and Owen (fiancée, Christine) Phelps, Shannon (Lawrence) Hadley, Erin (Shawn) McLevige, John Dickenson, Jennifer (Matthew) Ward, Michelle, David, Timothy, Andrew, Mark and Joseph Cable; 15 great-grandchildren; brother, John "Jack" (Jane) Weir of Madeline Island, Wis.; and several nieces and nephews. Special thanks to the staff at Medina Manor, Hospice Care of America, and Provena Cor Mariae, for providing her with care and compassion during her illness. Visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 3, in Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, Riverside Chapel, 3910 N. Rockton Ave., with prayer service at 6:30 p.m. Visitation also at 10 a.m. before the 11 a.m. Mass Saturday, Sept. 4, in St. James Catholic Church, 428 N. Second St., with the burial in St. Mary/St. James Cemetery. Since Mildred requested "no flowers", the family would suggest a donation to the Alzheimer's Association or the Children's Tumor Foundation.
