Patricia J. Horst 1932—2018
Patricia J. Horst, 85, of Rockford, passed away Wednesday, September 12, 2018, in her home. Born December 14, 1932, in Rockford, the daughter of James and Dorothy Charlotte (Brown) Boyer. Graduate of Rockford West High School, Class of 1950. Attended Rockford College, studied at University of Chicago and continued her education throughout the years. Patricia married Bruce E. Horst on October 4, 1969, at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Rockford. He predeceased her on February 22, 2012, in Naples, Florida. She owned Kran Gift Shops for over 8 years where she taught arts and crafts, opened Clear Reflections in the Edgebrook Center, developed many patents, and also owned United Skilled Industry Tool & Die Co., and Mid-States Screw Corporation. Patricia had many hobbies that included painting, flower arrangement, developing new products, reading, walking and traveling. She served on many boards; Protestant Community Services, Literacy Council, Chairman of Emerson Dept., R.W.C, started 50 Men Who Cook and was past president of P.J. Maxwell Co., Inc, and longtime member of Woman's Club, Rockford Country Club and Moorings Country Club of Naples, FL. Survived by her sons, Michael (Patricia) Kranish of Rockford and Mark Kranish of Durand; four grandchildren, Josh (Kelli), Shaun, Terran, and Kaelin; great-grandchildren, Elena, Olivia, and Jack; brothers, Ronald (Kathleen) Boyer and William Boyer of Arizona; four nephews; and one niece. Also predeceased by her daughter, Diane Kranish (2005); and twins daughters at birth in 1954.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, September 18, 2018, in Fred C. Olson Chapel, 1001 Second Ave, Rockford. Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday, September 17, 2018, in Fred C. Olson Chapel. Private burial in Willwood Burial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Noah's Ark Animal Sanctuary, 111 N 1st St, Rockford, IL 61107 or Rockford Christian Schools, 1401 N. Bell School Rd, Rockford, IL 61107.
