Pat came into my life when I was 29 years old. "Patty Cakes" was warm, affectionate and even a little bossy from the first moment we met. I knew instantly I was in the presence of a special woman. She filled two roles for me; a motherly figure AND good friend. One summer, she made it a point to introduce me to all the forest preserves and hiking trails in the Rockford area. We walked together for hours sometimes. I marvelled at her high energy and wondered how is it that I had trouble keeping up with a woman 40 years older than me?

Patty Cakes and Jerry were so proud of their children and their grand kids. They told me stories of their accomplishments often. And they were always anxious to share photos of family with me.

And Pat's brains! She was a smart cookie! I have very fond memories playing word games with her and playing Jeopardy and Who Wants to Be a Millionaire with her. The woman read a book or two a week. And she always had a map or her Oxford dictionary nearby to look something up.

The best memory of Patty Cakes takes me back to 2004. The Summer Olympics were in Greece that year. She invited me to her apartment to watch the marathon event. She had found a recipe for Greek Chicken and Pistachio Rice that she made for the occasion. The three of us - Pat, Jerry and I - had dinner together while we watched the runnner Baldini win a Gold for Italy.

Such a great person.

We just adored you, Pat.

Dear Nordmoe family- My deepest sympathies go out to you on your loss. I worked with Pat at the lab for many years and have very fond memories of Pat. Loved her spunky spirit, her classy dress, and her friendship. Me and Pat would go the the "Pie Shell" for lunch when we could both leave at lunch time and even went in to Chicago to the 95th for lunch. We visited Eric in Chicago on that visit. Pat was all about her kids and her grandchildren, I enjoyed her stories about all of them. It has been years since I have seen her but I have great memories of our friendship. I pray for the Lord to comfort you in your loss.

My wife Joanne and I have known Pat for many years through the Center for Learning in retirement. We both will miss her very much. I will especially miss the hugs she gave over the many years we attended Golden Eagles fitness together.
We did see her on Thursday last week and told her we would pray for.
With much sympathy.
