RICHARD J. MERHAR ROCKFORD - Richard J. Merhar passed away peacefully Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2012, after a short illness. He was a great husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. As an architect and owner of his own firm, Merhar and Associates, Dick was active in his field for more than 55 years until his death. Born in 1934 in Cleveland, Dick spent most of his childhood in Forest Park. He graduated from the University of Illinois in 1957. He met his wife, Eileen (Sampson) there, and they were married for 55 years. Dick and Eileen have three children, Kristen (Brian) Ellis of Holland, Mich., Kim Merhar (Jeff Pecor) of Roscoe and David (Julie) of River Forest. Dick's grandchildren, Braeden (Tiffany) Ellis, Troy Ellis, Ryen and Abby Merhar, will all miss Dick's sense of humor and gritty wit. Dick was also lucky enough to know his great-grandson, Miles Ellis. Predeceased by parents, John and Mary Merhar. Memorial service at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, in Westminster Presbyterian Church, 2821 Bell School Road, with memorial visitation from 9 to 10:45 a.m.; the Rev Dr. Bill Ward will officiate.
