ROBERT E. 'BUD' CARLSON, 89 ROCKFORD - Robert E. "Bud" Carlson, 89, of Rockford, formally a 41-year resident of Machesney Park, died at 9:45 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 24, 2013, in Riverbluff Nursing Home. Born Dec. 3, 1923, in Rockford; the son of Robert A. and Hildur T. (Carlsten) Carlson. Served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, serving on the U.S.S. Hailey, which was a destroyer ship in the South Pacific. Robert was an inspector for Essex Wire Corp., for 16 years, retiring in 1979. Member of Grace Lutheran Church, Loves Park. He enjoyed fishing, photography, and singing. He is survived by his sisters, Sylvia Jo Stewart and Alice (George) Stoneburner both of Rockford; one nephew; five nieces; numerous cousins; and special friend, Rosemary Pinchott. Predeceased by his parents; and sister, Audrey Haskell. Funeral service at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 29, in Olson Funeral & Cremation Services Ltd., Fred C. Olson Chapel, 1001 Second Ave., with visitation from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m.; the Rev. Brent Dahlseng will officiate. Burial in Scandinavian Cemetery.
