Robert G. "Bob" Meline 1932—2018
Robert G. "Bob" Meline, 85, lifelong Byron resident, died Saturday, September 8, 2018 in Rockford Mercy Hospital. Born November 3, 1932 in Leaf River, the son of Paul and Dorothy (Bauer) Meline. Bob was a 1951 graduate of Byron High School and a Korean War Navy veteran. Married to Karen Lutz June 5, 1954 in Byron. He was employed as a truck driver for 28 years and then worked in the maintenance department for Byron Schools for nearly 20 years. Bob was also a former Police Magistrate in Byron and Past Commander and member of the Byron American Legion, past president and former member of the AACA-Blackhawk Region and former member of the Early V-8 Automobile Club. He was an avid collector of coins and Mickey Mouse memorabilia, a car enthusiast, a Bear and White Sox fan, and reveled in his grandchildren's activities. Survived by his wife, Karen of Byron; son Jeff (Judy) Meline of Byron; daughters, Terri (Dave) Brevoort and Brenda (Rich) Crabel, both of Byron; grandchildren: Joshua Beitel, Jason (Curtis) Beitel-Wildes, Kara (James) Horner, Matthew (Ashley) Meline, Nathan Crabel (fiancé, Denise Hearn), and Ryan Crabel; great grandchildren; Jason, Jordie, Michaela, Mariha, Ruby, Lily, Caiden, Aubrey, Alex, Mason, Dawson and Teagan; sisters, Joyce (Roger) Kilmer of Byron and Janice (Bob) Poore of Florida; sister-in-law, Sharon Meline of Stevens Point, WI; brother-in-law, Bill (Linda) Lutz of Byron; and numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents and brothers, Kenneth and LeRoy.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, September 13 in Riverstone Christian Church, Oregon with Pastor Craig Arnold officiating. Burial in Byron Cemetery. Visitation Wednesday 4:00 – 7:00 pm in Farrell-Holland-Gale Funeral Home, Byron. Memorials may be either directed to the family or made to Riverstone Christian Church. www.farrellhollandgale.com
