ROBERT ALLEN JOHNSON, 87 loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend ROCKFORD - Robert Allen Johnson, 87, Rockford, died suddenly on October 28, 2013, in SwedishAmerican Hospital. Born February 28, 1926, in Paxton, IL, son of Nobel C. and Omie (O'Neal) Johnson. Graduated from Paxton High School and Bradley University. He married Jean Gaylord on October 18, 1953, in St. John's United Methodist Church in Rockford. WWII veteran of the United States Air Force and was a member of the WWII Combat Flyers. He began his career with Butternut Coffee where he was in sales for 15 years. Following that he owned the Bel-Rock Trailer Sales for 25 years, retiring in 1989. He was a member of Our Master's United Methodist Church where he served as a greeter and usher. Bob was a member of the YMCA Retired Men's Club and the Romeo Pool Club. He began the Bel-Rock Camping Club in 1968, and he and Jean met with a group of special friends at the Stockholm Inn on Mondays for breakfast for many years. Bob never met a stranger, had a wonderful "gift of gab" and a great sense of humor. Survivors include his wife, Jean; children, Barb Black, Mark A. (Cappy) Johnson and Nancy (Mike) Willuweit, all of Rockford; grandchildren, Ryan Johnson (Maryna), Chicago and Kari (Brent) Denton, Overland Park, KS; special niece and nephew, Gail Johnson (Brian) Quinn, St. Croix, V.I. and Blake Johnson, Kenmore, WA; several special cousins, great-nieces and great-nephews; and goddaughter, Charlene (Scott) Connelly. Predeceased by his parents, brother, Warren (Pat) Johnson and son-in-law, Stew Black. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 30, 2013, in Our Master's United Methodist Church, with Rev. Min Chea officiating. Visitation from 10 a.m. until time of the service. Memorials may be made to Our Master's United Methodist Church, 5973 Darlene Dr., Rockford, IL 61109. The family was assisted by Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, Mulford Chapel.
