ROBERT 'BOB' LEWIS RYAN, 84 ROCKFORD - Robert "Bob" Lewis Ryan, 84, of Rockford, went to be with his Lord and Savior on October 13, 2013. Born on August 2, 1929, in Sullivan County, TN, he was the son of James L. and Ada E. (Hamilton) Ryan. He married Anna Roach on January 10, 1953. An Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict, Bob was a long standing employee of Sears, Roebuck, and Company as a service tech for over 25 years. As a Founding Father of the Village of Machesney Park, he served as a village trustee from 1981until 1993. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Rockford, where he served as an ordained deacon and on numerous committees. Early in life, Bob enjoyed playing Gospel and Blue Grass music on the guitar. He also enjoyed gardening, carpentry, and fixing anything he put his hands to. Survivors include his daughters, Deb Castronovo, and Peggy (Bill) Freeman; sons, Timothy, James (Sarah), and Benjamin (Lorrie) Ryan; 9 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; sisters, Edith Maden and Margaret Gilreath; and many other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents; first wife, Gladys Goins; second wife, Anna Roach; 3 brothers; and one sister. Funeral service, 2 p.m. Friday, October 18, at Sunset Funeral Home, 8800 N. Alpine Road, Machesney Park, Rev. David Spooner officiating. Visitation 12 p.m. to time of service. Memorials may be made to Fairhaven Christian Retirement Center.
