Roger Swanson Obituary

Roger Swanson, 89 ROCKFORD - Roger Swanson, 89, of Rockford died Friday, May 6, 2011, in SwedishAmerican Hospital. Born Feb. 22, 1922, in Rockford, the son of Oscar and Esther (Gustafson) Swanson. He married Frances O. Owens on Oct. 2, 1943, in Rockford; she died Sept. 20, 2000. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Roger worked for the Rockford Board of Education. He was a member of Temple Baptist Church and grew up attending Tabor Lutheran Church. Roger enjoyed bowling, antiques, traveling and being with his family. He is survived by his son, Mark Swanson of Arlington Heights. Predeceased by his son, Roger O. "Skip"; and sister, Ruth Nelson. Service at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 12, in Olson Funeral & Cremation Services Ltd., Fred C. Olson Chapel, 1001 Second Ave., with the Rev. Jay Quinn officiating. Burial in Arlington Memorial Park. Visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 11, in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials to American Cancer Society, 4312 E. State St., Rockford, IL 61108. I will never forget Roger's smile and sense of humor. I'll miss seeing him around P.A. He was a great person to know!
