ROY L. CRONE, 89 ROCKFORD - Roy L. Crone, 89, of Rockford, died on Wednesday, March 20, 2013, in Fairhaven Health Center. Born May 1, 1923, in Bloomington, Ill., the son of Fred and Hazel (Cook) Crone. He married D. Lucille Denler on Nov. 4, 1945, in Bloomington, Ill. Roy served in the United States Navy, during World War II, attaining the rank of Ensign. He received his Masters of Science degree in Education from Illinois State University in 1953. He taught math and science in Wilmington, Ill., for 10 years and later became the high school principal. Roy was employed by Western Electric in Cicero, Illinois, first as a quality control engineer and later as a computer applications development engineer, before retiring in 1988. He served on the Westmont Grade School Board for 2 terms and the Downers Grove High School Board for 1 term. He was always involved with serving his Lord in the local church where he was needed and most helpful. He was a longtime member of First Evangelical Free Church and active in the Men on the Move organization and volunteered at the church camp called "TimberLee". Roy went on three short term mission trips to Belgium and the Philippine Islands. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially on Sunday afternoons when it was time for hiking through the woods. He is survived by his wife, Lucille; sons, James (Vicki) Crone of Rockford, Richard (Margie) Crone of Woodbury, Minn., Charles Crone of Maple Grove, Minn., Edward Crone of Houston, Texas, and Michael (Renate) Crone of Medina, Tenn.; sister, Lorraine (Arthur) Riddle; 8 grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren. Predeceased by his 2 brothers and 1 grandson. Thank you to Fairhaven staff for their excellent care of Roy. Memorial service will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday, April 5, in Fairhaven Christian Retirement Center Chapel. Private burial in Scandinavian Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12:30 to 1:15 p.m. Friday, prior to the service in the chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the family, for Fairhaven or Rockford Rescue Mission.
