Shawn Kampmeier Obituary
SHAWN JAMES KAMPMEIER, 28 ROSCOE - Shawn James Kampmeier, 28, of Roscoe, passed away Friday, Jan. 18, 2013. He was born June 24, 1984, in Rockford to Phil and Sonja Kampmeier. He passed away after a lengthy battle with drug addiction. The disease ultimately took his life but could not take away his kind heart and gentle soul. He will be deeply missed by all of those who truly knew and loved him. Our hearts are broken but will slowly heal, knowing that he is now safe and at peace. Shawn attended Harlem schools and received his diploma in 2003. He was most recently employed at Midwest Packaging. Shawn was a loving son, grandson, brother, uncle, cousin and friend. He loved playing sports as a child and enjoyed the annual summer vacations shared with his parents and siblings. Shawn was an avid Green Bay Packer and St. Louis Cardinal fan. He shared countless memories with family and friends enjoying watching "our team" play. His brother and sister were the light of his life. They adored their big brother and Shawn was very proud of both of them. They are comforted knowing that Shawn will be forever with them. He is survived by his parents, Phil and Sonja; brother, Casey; and sister, Kayla; grandparents, Donna Goedert, and Jim and Mary Lou Kampmeier; uncles, Ryan, Dan, Matt, Chris and Adrian; aunts, Nancy, Katie, Gail, Nancy Anne and Donna; cousins, Jacky, Lindsey, Ray, Kelly, A.J., Aaron and Parker; and faithful companion and pet, Kirby. Shawn is predeceased by "Grampa" Don Goedert; and great-grandmother, Isoline (Kitty) Martorana. We appreciate very much and can never thank enough the individuals and organizations that offered a helping hand or a kind word to Shawn and our family over the past several years. Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 23, at Sunset Funeral Home, 8800 N. Alpine Road, Machesney Park. Pastor Wendell Maynard will be officiating. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to service time Wednesday at the funeral home. Private Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, please forward donations to Sojourn House in Freeport and/or Rosecrance of Rockford. Condolences can be submitted at sunsetfhmemgardens.com.
