Shirley Heid Obituary

Shirley M. Heid, 84 MCCONNELL - Shirley M. Heid, 84, passed away Saturday, May 14, 2011, in Manor Court at Liberty Village of Freeport. She was born Shirley Mae Schuman on Jan. 28, 1927, the only child of Elmer and Agnes Schuman. She attended Hershey Grade School and graduated from Pearl City High School in 1944. She married Ralph Heid on Oct. 12, 1947, in Zion Church, rural Pearl City. Together they farmed, ran Heid Oil Co., raised Airedale dogs and three sons. Shirley was a member of McConnell Methodist Church, McConnell American Legion Auxiliary and McConnell Historical Society. She had artistic talents and loved the outdoors and animals. She had a real green thumb and could make anything grow in a tin can. Over the years, she was a part-time telephone operator, rural mail carrier and an election judge. She is survived by sons, Sherrill (Linda) Heid of Byron and Shelvan (Cindy) Heid of McConnell; daughter-in-law, Kay Heid of Golden, Colo.; grandchildren, Christie (Jeff) Billeter of Byron, Dirk (Dawn) Heid of Genoa, Justin (Nicole) Heid of McConnell, Shawn (Abbie) Heid of Pearl City, Ashlee (Joshua McCarthy) Heid of Peoria, Kaycee and Andy Heid of Fort Collins, Colo.; great-grandchildren, Tracie and Heidie Raine of Byron and Dylan Heid of Genoa. She was preceded in death by parents; husband in 1994; and son, Sherman, in 1989. The family would like to thank the caring staff of Manor Court for their devoted and compassionate care. Service at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 17, in McConnell United Methodist Church, with visitation from 10 a.m. to service time. The Rev. Doug Carroll will officiate. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, May 16, in Leamon Funeral Home, Lena. Interment in Silent Hill Cemetery. Condolences may be sent at leamonfh.com.
