I am saddened to learn of Steve's passing. I had lost touch with him over the last several years. My mother "Jeanne" worked as a secretary for Steve and his father, and later Steve alone for many years. She thoroughly enjoyed working for him, and considered him one of her dearest friends. He was a caring and gentle man, who touched many lives. He will be missed by many.

It does not surprise me that Mr. Ellis cared much about animals. I did not know him during his prime years but was impressed by his determination to carry on despite the health issues that beset him. Given his impressive educational background, years as a lawyer, and civic involvement, he was an extremely humble man. I hope many animals at Noah's Ark benefit from memorials to Mr. Ellis.

I am very saddened by the passing of Stephen. I worked at Provena Cor Maria when he was there and we shared our interests in the welfare of animals as well as many other things. He was a very intelligent and caring man.He will be missed by many!

I knew Mr. Ellis when I was growing up in Rockford. He was such an interesting man and always took the time to talk to me even though I was young. What I will remember most about him was his remarkable command of the English language and his wonderfully quick wit.

I HAD THE PRIVILEGE OF BEING AN "EXTRA" OFFICE HELPER WHEN NEEDED TO THIS WONDERFUL MAN. HE WAS SUCH A PROFESSIONAL PERSON YET WARM AND KIND AND VERY UNDERSTANDING. VARIED IN HIS INTERESTS, WE SHARED OUR LOVE FOR ANIMALS. A GOOD MAN WHO WILL BE MISSED. REST IN PEACE WITH NO PAIN, STEVE. AUDREY, LILIAN AND STEPHEN
