THOMAS G. DAVIG, 72 ROCKFORD - Thomas G. Davig, 72, of Rockford died, Thursday, July 5, 2012, surrounded by his loving family, after a long illness. Born Jan. 9, 1940, in Vernon County, Wis., to Gordon and Lois (Henderson) Davig. Tom was a respected member of the community and will be missed by all who knew him, especially his loving wife, Barbara, whom he married on May 5, 2005, in Las Vegas. Mr. Davig owned and operated Davig's Custom Cleaners for 38 years, and was the first cleaner in the Midwest to convert to an ecologically responsible green solvent. His forward-thinking, innovative mind and love of tinkering led to the creation of the Tebala Shine Mini-Airplanes used in area parades. He was a past Potentate of the Tebala Shrine (1995), past president of the Illinois Dry Cleaners Association, member of Masonic Lodge 102, Valley of Freeport Scottish Rite Bodies, a veteran of the U.S. Army, a private pilot, an excellent golfer and an avid Packers fan. Left to mourn his loss are wife, Barbara; stepchildren, Patrick (Tricia) and their children, Samantha Jo and Michael James "MJ", Gregory (Amanda) Kelly and their children, Grace and Owen, and Timothy Kelly; sister, Maryann (Dave) Bolstad; brothers, Robert (Pam), Gary (Marcia), Ron "Whitey" (Eva), Rich (Jody) Davig; aunt, Marcella Swiggum; nieces, Heather (Jason) Deigert and Michelle Bolstad; nephews, Mike, Mark (Laura) and Troy (Erin) Davig; and his loyal employees, Karen, Lisa, Barbree, Kristen, Joanne, Wanida, Vita, Lilia, Jose, Harriette, Claire, Dave, Mable and AnnaMarie. Predeceased by his parents; wife, Vie (Johnson) Davig; and nephew, Jon Bolstad. Masonic funeral services at 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 9, at Anderson-Long-Klontz Funeral Home, 6825 Weaver Rd, Rockford, with visitation from 9 a.m. to time of service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Shriner's Hospitals for Children - Chicago Unit, shrinershospitalforchildren.org.
