I will always remember my mom for the strength and courage that she had. Through all of the chemo and radiation she had she went through it like a champ. I remember someone asked her was she scared when she found out she had cancer and she said no because whatever God has for you to go through you have to go through it. That's the attitude she had her entire battle with cancer. I will never forget the life lessons she taught me such as put God first, help anybody you can, always treat people right and don't look down on anybody no matter what they look like. My mom had a love for cooking and feeding anybody she could. I rememember waking up several times in the morning to bacon, eggs and toast. I'll miss her good cooking. My mom taught us to value family and friends. She truly loved her family and there wasn't nothing she wouldn't do for us. I'll miss her making me late for church every Sunday because she had to stop and get some peppermints to share with everybody or because she had to change her clothes more than once. There's not a day that goes by that I don't think about her. I'm thankful for the memories. Mom you have earned your wings. May you rest in peace. Love always, your daughter, Tonya.

I remember my Aunt Virginia for her food and long history of “riding” along in cars with others. I remember driving her from point A to Point B (once I was old enough to drive). Most of all I remember how good of a cook she was, people would stop me and say “you aunt sure can cook” and right before she passed I attempted to get the recipe for her famous Caramel cake, but she was unable to give it to me, so I hope she will be there in spirit when I attempt to make it. I LOVE YOU and MISS YOU Aunt Virginia.

Gramma Gee Gee has always been a strong woman. We have so many wonderful memories that will never be forgotten. She would give you the shirt off her back if she thought you were cold. Her door was always open and she was always feeding us her GREAT cooking. Man...I can't believe you are gone. Although it hurts so bad and you will truly be missed, we know that you are enjoying those streets of gold and many mansions. To my Aunt Samantha, Aunt Tonya, Uncle Smoke (Maurice), Uncle Chris and Uncle Punkin (Bruce)...your mother was such a beautiful woman with the strength she could have only gotten from God. Her faith was unbelievable faith and her love was agape love. She has taught us all so much and I am Blessed to have her as part of our lives.

We love you all so much...La Shawn, Diamond, Nicole, Antranicque, Braylen

when I first meet Mrs. Lewers I didn't know how sick she was, because she was always up doing something. Their was one thing that I think I will never ever forget. She had me in the kitchen cooking and making potato salad, now for a person who can't cook had NO business in the kitchen cooking anything never the less making potato salad. As I was yelling from the kitchen asking her what do I do next Mrs.Lewers had fell asleep in the living room and I was as lost as a puppy, i still laugh to this day, but by the time all the food was ready she just looked at me and said "you just keep trying you will get better" that along made me feel better and I thank you Mrs.Lewers for that.

I could always count on her to be there for me. We got really close when I had my boys and she started keeping them for me while I went to work and school. Who knows how I would've finished that first degree without her there. During that time, she got the nickname "Santa Clause" Grandma after her collection of Santa Clauses because that is the only way the boys could keep their many grandmas straight. Anytime she called to talk to them, it was "Santa Clause" grandma is on the phone and the boys knew just who it was. They enjoyed spending time with her. Probably because they always got what they wanted. I would be late for work or school sometimes because Shanyis had ate the last bit of ice cream the day before and I just HAD to go get more. If I couldn't, please know that either Sam or Tonya was going to get it. Either way, Shanyis had his ice cream. I called myself dressing them nice only to pick them up with red juice and ice cream stained shirts. My grandmother was a tremendous force in my life. She will be missed and never forgotten. Until we meet again.....Love Retha Girl, Shanyis, & Shamir

R.I.P. Ms Virginia. Praying for the family

Samantha Porter

May 11, 2011

My mother was an amazing strong woman. When she was diagnosed with cancer I remember the doctor telling her he was so sorry, she responded you don't have to be sorry. She never complained and always remained positive. She loved her family and I am so glad that she got to see her family and friends Easter weekend. It was as if she did things her way all the way to the end. Who would have ever thought that I would be cooking, but when she came home and the doctors first told her not to use her arm she said you will have to cook and thanks to her I can now make some good dishes. She was a good person and if she could help you she would. She was a lady that was always on the go...she loved cooking, gardening, and being with family and friends (especially her grandchildren). Even while in the hospital she remained her joking self and couldn't wait to see who was bringing her something good to eat. Mom you will always remain in our hearts and will never be forgotten. Until we meet again, I love you. Your daughter, Samantha.

My Aunt Jenny was a special lady whom will be truly missed. She was a character, so therefore we never knew what would come out of her mouth. She constantly kept us laughing at all the many saying she had. Tho she couldn't drive; she was my traveling buddy and she would talk the entire trip, to keep me awake...you are gone, but not forgotten. Love your niece
