VIVIAN M. BROWN, 89 LENA - Vivian M. Brown, 89, of Lena, formerly of Rockford, passed away Monday, June 6, 2011, at Lena Living Center. Born June 30, 1921, in Stillman Valley, the daughter of George and Sophie Ludwig Boumgarden. Married John F. Brown on Oct. 17, 1941. Vivian lived in Oregon for four years during the period John served in the Air Force in World War II. They then moved to Dixon, living there for 23 years. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church and was an active member of the Women's Club, becoming president of Northwestern Illinois Region of Women's Clubs. In 1970, Vivian and John moved to Rockford because of a transfer in work location by John's employer, Commonwealth Edison. Vivian was very artistically talented in crafts and exceptional at oil paintings, producing many high-quality pictures. She enjoyed flowers and gardening, doing both with great perfection and playing golf with both John and female friends. Survived by husband, John; sons, Donald (Pat) Brown of Lena, Russell (Sue) Brown of New Lenox and Warren Brown of Waldorf, Md.; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Service at 1 p.m. Friday, June 10, at Farrell Holland Gale Funeral Home, 136 W. Roosevelt Road, Stillman Valley, with visitation from noon to time of service; Pastor Chris Brauns of the Congregational Christian Church will officiate. Burial in Stillman Valley Cemetery. Grace Ann Neie

June 9, 2011

Uncle John, Don, Russell, Warren and families: though I am not able to be with the rest of the family this week, attending Aunt Vivian's services and celebration of life, please know that I am with you all in thought and prayer. Elvis and I cherish our almost yearly visits in recent years with Uncle John and Aunt Vivian as we shared stories, projects, show-and-tells, tea and pie, too. Many of Aunt Vivan's handiworks and crafts grace nearly every room of my home and many are also with her great great niece, my own granddaughter Amber. Aunt Vivian was special to us and she and her chuckling laugh will be missed. We send our love.
