WENDELL W. COURT, 92 ROCKFORD - Wendell W. Court, 92, of Rockford, died at 5:20 a.m. Monday, May 20, 2013, in his home at Peterson Meadows. Born May 12, 1921, in his home in Belvidere, the son of Martyn and Dorothy (Myers) Court. Served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the European Theatre where he received two Bronze Stars. He met his wife of 64 years, Helen Peterson, when he sold beauty supplies and she was a beautician. They married Oct. 27, 1948, in Rockford. He then bought Vincent Beauty Supplies, where he was the owner/operator for 40 years until he retired in 1988. He was a longtime member of Bethesda Covenant Church, and was a Shriner and Mason for over 50 years. Wendell loved spending time with his grandchildren and enjoyed his time at his cottage on Green Lake, Wis. He was famous for his peanut brittle and Korv sausage, which he made and gave to everyone, especially at church. He also enjoyed golfing, fishing, and traveling. He is survived by his wife, Helen; children, Kathy (John) Kenny of Los Gatos, Calif., and Sharon (Bill) Scheer of Rockford; grandsons, David Kenny, Jeff (Liz) Genrich, Greg (Marla) Genrich, and Brian (Desirae) Genrich; great-grandchildren, Anakin, Simon, Max, Spencer, and Audrey Genrich; siblings, Bill, Cal (Barb), and Ramona Court; and several nieces and nephews. Special thanks to Northern Illinois Hospice and Grief Center, and the In Touch staff at Peterson Meadows. Memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, May 24, 2013, in Bethesda Covenant Church, 2101 E. State St., with Rev. David Lindfors and Rev. J. David Wood officiating. Memorials may be made to Bethesda Covenant Church.
