BRO. MICHAEL MCDERMOTT ROCKFORD - A man of God was released from his assignment at 6:20 a.m. August 15, 2013, at Mercy Hospital in Springfield, MO, after battling cancer. Mike was born on December 14, 1960, in Rochelle to loving parents, Joyce and Lendon McDermott. He graduated from Auburn High School in 1979, and then went on to Berean School of the Bible as well as Discipleship Training through First Assemblies of God. Mike was youth pastor at Faith Tabernacle Church from 1985 to 1991, and lead pastor at First Love Fellowship from 1991 to 1996. Mike continued his ministry writing many devotional books and teachings throughout his life. He also drove trucks for Muller Pinehurst and USF Holland. Musically gifted, he played the bass and electric guitar for various bands in the Rockford area. Michael leaves behind his wife, Laurie McDermott; stepdaughter, Emma Lynch; his mother, Joyce McDermott; children, Joshua (Lidia), Alicia, and Whitney McDermott; two grandchildren, Joshua Jr. and Kevin McDermott; nephew, Shannon Hinrichs and his family; as well as numerous aunts uncles and cousins. He was preceded by his father, Lendon McDermott; sister, Sheila Hinrichs; paternal grandparents, Noah and Alta McDermott; maternal grandparents, Vernie and Giula McDaniel. Funeral service 11 a.m. Saturday, August 24, at Central Christian Church, 6595 Guilford Road, Rockford, Jim Thorpe officiating. Visitation from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday, August 23, at the church.
