ZENO VOURLIOTIS, 86 beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather ROCKFORD - Zeno Vourliotis, 86, passed away Saturday, January 25, 2014, at Rosewood Care Center in Rockford. He was the son of Spiros and Calliope Vourliotis. Zeno was born in Rockford on January 18, 1928, and lived here his entire life. He graduated from West High School in 1945, attended the University of Illinois, and served in the U.S. Navy. Zeno married Irene Grevin on June 10, 1951, who predeceased him on November 18, 2000. He was employed by Nicor Gas Company for 28 years in the Service Department. He was a devoted and loving husband, son, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Zeno can best be remembered for his humor, his care and concern of people and being young-at-heart. Zeno loved to dance and listen to music and gave his family the most heart-warming and fun Christmases that will always be remembered. His family values and traditions will live on with his family. He was a lifetime fan of the Chicago Bears, Cubs, and Bulls. He was Zeke the Greek and always proud of his heritage. He was an avid gardener, loved building model airplanes, antiquing, fishing, and loved spending time with his family. He was an active member of his church and participated in Greek Fest and On The Waterfront. He accepted all the stages that he went through with dignity and strength and his love for the Lord was always present. He meant everything to his entire family and will be greatly missed! Surviving him are his daughters, Colette (Wayne) Oliver, Marguerite (Paul) Godlewski; son, Spero (Annette) Vourliotis of Alabama; grandchildren, Laura (Richard) Fisher of Florida, Eric (Nataly) Hawker, Stephen (Emilie) Godlewski, John Godlewski, Chase and Ashley Vourliotis of Alabama; great-grandchildren, Isla and Dylan Fisher of Florida, Gabriel and Gavin Zeke Hawker, and Gianna Godlewski. The family wishes to express a sincere thank you to all the staff at Rosewood Care Center for the excellent care they gave Zeno as well as N.I. Hospice for their care and compassion. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 pm. Friday, January 31, at Sundberg Funeral Home 215 N. Sixth Street. Trisagion service at 6:30 p.m., with Reverend Demetri Kounavis officiating. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, February 1, at Sts. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church, 108 N. Fifth Street, with Reverend Peter Sarolas and Reverend John Artemas officiating. Burial in Greenwood Cemetery. Memorials to Sts. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church.
