JEANNE A. KERNS, 95 ROCKFORD - Jeanne A. Kerns, 95, passed away peacefully at home with her son at her side on Saturday, February 8, 2014. She was born Nov. 3, 1918, in Davenport, IA, the daughter of George and Rozella (Hibst) Senjen. Jeanne was a former active member of Moline, IL PTA, National PTA, and the first female trustee at Black Hawk College in Moline, IL. While living in Nigeria, she taught knitting and sewing in women's schools. Jeanne was one of the first female agents hired by Tom Dickerson Realtors and worked there many years. She was active with RAMP and was a founding board member. Survivors include her son, Kevin M. Kerns of Rockford; grandchildren, Sean (Lisa) Kerns of Morrow, OH, Colin (Kaia) Kerns of Minneapolis, MN, Robert (Barb) Kerns of St. Louis, MO, and Kelsi Megan (Seth) Kerns-Carter of Bloomington, IL; a sister, Sandra Tack of Gold Canyon, AZ; four great-grandchildren; longtime friend from the Peace Corps, Harlan Attfield; other longtime friends, Jane Hawkins-Hoff, Tom and Earline Dickerson, Beth Langen, Julie Bosma, and Kim Schweitzer; and beloved dog, Miss Ginger. Predeceased by her husband, Robert J. Kerns; sons, Clayton Webster Kerns and Kendal Scott Kerns; daughter-in-law, Elizabeth "Betsy" Kerns; brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Virginia Senjen; and dogs, Loki and Skye. Special thanks to Dr. McHugh and the nurses in D3 (RMH), Atrium staff, and Transitions Hospice. No services scheduled at this time. Inurnment in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
