ELIZABETH L. 'BETTY' PALMQUIST, 90 ROCKFORD - Elizabeth L. "Betty" Palmquist, 90, of Rockford, died at 11:45 a.m. Sunday, March 16, 2014, in Fairhaven Christian Retirement Center. Born March 11, 1924, in Rockford, the daughter of Harold and Myrtle (Bodin) Berg. Graduated in the first class of Rockford East High School. She married Marvin Palmquist Oct. 15, 1945, in Rockford. He predeceased her in February 1998. Before she married, Betty worked as a secretary at First Evangelical Covenant Church and Sundstrand Corp. In addition to being a busy mother and grandmother, her love and joy was in serving her family and others, and her life was a reflection of her abiding faith and deep love of the Lord. Betty was an active member of First Evangelical Free Church, where she participated in the Selina Circle. She enjoyed gardening, music, art, cooking, and traveling, and she was a member of the Ho-Chee-Dos Club, the Swedish Cultural Society, and the Palm Avenue Garden Club. She is survived by her children, Christine Palmquist, Andy and Patty (Klein) Palmquist, and Mary Sue Palmquist; grandchildren, Erika, Drew, and Adam and Stephanie (Yates) Palmquist; great-granddaughter, Adriana Palmquist; sister, Gwendolyn Lipsey; sister-in-law, Lois Carlson; and several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her sister, Janet Johnson. Special thanks to the staff at Fairhaven Christian Retirement Center and Northern Illinois Hospice for their loving care. Graveside service will be at 12:30 p.m. Friday, March 21, 2014, in Arlington Memorial Park, followed by a memorial service at 2 p.m. in First Evangelical Free Church, 2223 N. Mulford Rd., with Rev. Glenn Johnson officiating. Visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, March 20, 2014, in Olson Funeral & Cremation Services, Ltd., Fred C.
