BEVERLY ANN 'BEV' HOUSTON MACHESNEY PARK - Beverly Ann "Bev" Houston, of Machesney Park, IL departed this earthly life Friday, March 14, 2014, in her home, after a long illness. She was born September 15, 1946, in Brooklyn, New York; the daughter of Curtis Thomas and Luella Pouncy. Beverly lived in Machesney Park 23 years, coming from Monmouth, IL. She married Eugene Houston June 18, 1974, in Shreveport, Louisiana. Beverly was employed as an Upfront Manager by Sears Essential and Kmart, 20 years before retiring. She was also a proud Mary Kay Beauty Consultant over 30 years. Beverly was a member of New Zion Missionary Baptist Church, serving on the Deaconess Board. She graduated from Harris High School in North Little Rock, Arkansas. Beverly leaves to cherish many loving memories, her devoted husband, Eugene; three daughters, LaRena Thomas, ReGenea Houston and Dawn Golden; son, Gene Houston Jr.; three grandchildren, Tyrone whom she raised as a son, Teondray and TaNiyah; two great-grandchildren; brothers, Charles (Ella) Thomas, Nathaniel and Michael Marshall; and sisters, Betty (Hollis) Ready, Helen Savage, Shereece Marshall, Patricia Bean; special cousin who she raised as her son, Keith Houston; godson, Joseph Herron Jr.; a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives including her dog who she loved, Stax. She was predeceased by parents; a very special aunt, who she knew as her mother, Bernice Thomas; and goddaughter Jamaya Herron. Services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, March 22, 2014, at New Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 604 Salter Ave., with Pastor K. Edward Copeland officiating. Burial in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until the time of service. Arrangements completed by Carl E. Ponds Funeral Home, 2429 W. State St.
