AVICE GENE DONALDSON, 88 MACHESNEY PARK - Avice Gene Donaldson, 88, of Machesney Park passed from this life Monday, March 24, 2014. Born Sept. 11, 1925, in Ramsey, daughter of A. C. and Blanche (Bolt) Miller. Graduated from Brownstown High School, Class of 1943. Married Forrest L. Donaldson on May 18, 1946, in Vandalia. She was employed by Woodward Governor for 15 years, retiring in 1984. Active member of Northeast Christian Church where she taught Sunday school for many years. During World War II, Avice taught school in rural Illinois. She was a passionate artist and used her talents to serve her church, as well as bringing joy to her family and friends. She loved nature and traveling. Survivors include the love of her life for almost 68 years, her husband, Forrest; children, Del (Char) Donaldson of Sioux Falls and Deb (Mike) Fry of Machesney Park; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one sister; several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by a brother and a sister. The family wishes to thank Avice's many friends at Northeast Christian Church, formerly Harlem Road Christian Church and the caring staff at Presence Cor Mariae, Rockford Memorial Hospital and Heartland Hospice. Service at 11 a.m. Friday, March 28, at Northeast Christian Church, 5651 E. Riverside Blvd., Rockford, with visitation from 9:30 a.m. to service time; with Pastor Sylvia Staley officiating.
