HELEN VERONICA SHOEMAKER, 91 ROCKFORD - Helen Veronica Shoemaker, 91, of Rockford died peacefully Friday, May 2, 2014, at Presence Cor Mariae Nursing Home. She was born November 22, 1922, the daughter of Vincent and Veronica Trusty. Grew up in the small town of Oelwein, IA, graduating from Sacred Heart High School. During WWII Helen traveled to California and helped build aircrafts for the war, she was a real Rosie the Riveter. Married her loving husband, Robert J. Shoemaker on August 2, 1947, in Rockford. An active member of Holy Family Catholic Church, where she was a member of the funeral luncheon committee. Survivors include her sons, Terry and Rick Shoemaker of Rockford; 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded by her parents; her husband in 2001; son, John Shoemaker; daughter, Julene Rungren; 4 brothers; and 2 sisters. Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 7, 2014, at Holy Family Catholic Church. Visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 6, at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Rd., with a Rosary to be recited at 7 p.m. Visitation also from 9:30 a.m. until time of prayer at 10:15 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Interment will be held at Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
