DOUGLAS A. PILGRIM, 87 ROCKFORD - Douglas A. Pilgrim, 87, Rockford, died at 10:50 a.m. Friday, June 13, 2014, at Core Mariae Center in Rockford, Illinois. Born April 18, 1927, in Barbados, BWI, son of Elton and Lillian Pilgrim. He lived in Rockford since 1951 after working for the US Government Immigration Services. He retired after 42 years as a stone cutter for Benson Stone Co. Member of Pilgrim Baptist Church. He married Mary Ellen Dickerson in Rockford on September 23, 1952 and she died November 16, 2004. Survivors include his daughter, Deborah Pilgrim; son, David Pilgrim; brother, Gardiner (Julie) Lashley of England; and 5 sisters, Elise, Marion, Celestine, Margaret and Norma. Several nieces, nephews and grandchildren. Predeceased by 2 brothers, Eslie and Glenville; and 2 sisters, Doreen and Muriel. Special thanks to the caregivers at Rockford Memorial Hospital and Core Mariae Center and VNA Hospice for the kindness given to Douglas during this time. Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 19, 2014, at Julian-Poorman-Welte Funeral Home. Pastor Anthony Beeks will officiate. Visitation from 9:00 A.M. until service time.
