MARGARET KREBS, 94 ROCKFORD - Margaret Krebs, 94, of Rockford, went peacefully to meet family and friends at 11:55 a.m. Thursday, June 5, 2014, in her home. Born March 7, 1920, in Rockford, the daughter of John and Ellen (Kull) Krebs. She graduated from Rockford Memorial School of Nursing in 1944, and started her career as Head Nurse in the medical-surgical and pediatric units of Rockford Memorial Hospital. She continued at Rockford Memorial, serving as Assistant Director of Nursing Services, and a part-time instructor for the Rockford Memorial School of Nursing. In 1970, she was named to the position of Director of Nursing Service, and in 1978, she was promoted to Assistant Vice-President, Nursing and Unit Service, retiring as Assistant Vice President - Nursing Management after 39 years of service. Margaret was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church and was confirmed March 17, 1934. Also an active participant in Kuma Moto Circle and other church activities. Margaret furthered her own education throughout her career at Western Reserve University, DePaul University, Rockford College and the University of Illinois. Her professional affiliations included: National League for Nursing, National Forum for Administrators of Nursing Service, Illinois Chapter of the American Society of Nurse Administrators, and Rockford Memorial Alumnae Association. She received the Triumvirate Award for her career of dedicated service. Her humanitarian spirit, active concern for nursing education, and leadership roles in her profession made her an outstanding example of service to her profession. She is survived by nephews, Jim (Sallie) Krebs and Kary Krebs. Predeceased by brothers, Howard and Bob Krebs and niece, Nadine Krebs. The family wishes to thank Northern Illinois Hospice and Margaret's caregivers. Also special thanks to neighbor, Diane; and special friends, Romayne and Marlene. Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 24, 2014, in Olson Funeral & Cremation Services, Ltd., Fred C. Olson Chapel, 1001 Second Ave., with Rev. Jay Quinn officiating. Burial in Scandinavian Cemetery. Visitation from 12 to 12:45 p.m. prior to the service in the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Rockford Memorial Auxiliary, 2400 N.
