Obituary Condolences

ROBERT J. FREET, 87 ROCKFORD - Robert J. Freet, 87, of Rockford passed away peacefully Sunday, June 29, 2014 in his home. Born April 7, 1927 in Nappanee, IN to William and Creda Marie (Walter) Freet. June 7, 1947 in Syracuse, IN., he married his high school sweetheart, Virginia S. Franklin, his wife of 66 years. Robert served our country in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He was a member of the VFW for 60 years and also a proud member of the Military Order Of The Cootie. He worked for Western and Southern Life Insurance Company, retiring after 30 years. Robert was an avid outdoorsman who loved fishing, crabbing, gardening, especially his roses and columbine. He also thoroughly enjoyed writing and reciting poetry. His smile would light up a room and he deeply loved his children and grandchildren. Survivors include his children, Susan Holland, Robert (Leslie) Freet Jr., Sandra (Michael) Seagraves, Patricia (Peter) Kent, and Russell (Jody) Freet; 8 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren. He is predeceased by his wife, parents, 3 sisters, and 3 brothers. Visitation 12 to 1 p.m. Thursday, July 3, 2014 at Sunset Funeral Home, 8800 N. Alpine Rd. Machesney Park.
