RUTH C. (REED) HUTCHINS, 87 ROCKFORD - Ruth C. (Reed) Hutchins, 87, of Rockford, formerly of Roseville, IL, died Saturday, July 12, 2014, at St. Anne's Nursing Home. She was born November 24, 1926, to Ralph C. and Clementine (Stevenson) Reed in Monmouth, IL. She graduated from Roseville High School in 1944. Ruth taught school in a one-room school house during the war. In 1947, she married Max Hutchins in Roseville and raised a family that eventually included 3 children: Charles (Mary) Hutchins of South Beloit, Ellen (Steve) Hoffacker of West Palm Beach, FL and Nancy Hutchins of Rockford. She worked various jobs through the years including outboard motor assembly, cutting and filling glass vials, packaging and working the lunch counter a W.T. Grants in North Town shopping center. She finished her career as the housekeeping supervisor at Maria Liden retirement home. However, retirement didn't agree with Ruth and she became the "key lady" at Valkommen Apartments where she lived. She travelled to Florida and spent spring breaks with her 2 grandsons, Andrew and Brennen Hoffacker. No matter what her grandsons proposed, she agreed. They took her kayaking in Florida keys, camping, boating on the intercoastal and dropping down the "Tower of Terror" in Orlando. Even as adults, they loved spending time with her. She loved thunderstorms, snow storms, everyone's life story and her cat, CeeCee. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Harriet Reed, Oak Park; nephews, Ralph (DeeDee) and Steve Reed. She is preceded in death by her infant sister, Nancy Ellen Reed; brother, Theodore Reed; and her parents. At Ruth's request all services will be private. Cremation rites accorded by Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Rd., Rockford, IL 61108. Express online condolences at:
