RACHEL BROOKS, 86 ROCKFORD - Rachel Brooks, 86, passed into Heaven on Saturday, August 9, 2014 while her two daughters and granddaughter sang Amazing Grace to her. Mom was born on October 28, 1927 in Arkansas to Joe and Gladys Ball, one of nine children. Mom married Elgin Brooks on March 2, 1946 and had two daughters, Jolean and Debbie. They moved to Rockford in 1948 where Mom eventually worked and retired from Amerock. Mom was a member of Berean Baptist Church since June of 1956. She was a faithful servant and wore many different hats while she was able. Mom was a grandmother to Angell, Melissa (deceased) and Melodi; great-grandmother (GG) to nine and great-great-grandmother to three. Five generations from a lady that loved her family. She never had any sons until Dean and Gordon married into the family and she loved them as her own. She loved her grandsons, Marc and Kevin, who also married into our family. When Mom's health started failing, she moved into Fairhaven and we would like to thank Tom and Jeff for everything. We would like to especially give thanks to all the angels (caretakers) on the third floor who loved Mom and took good care of her. Mom is survived by daughters, Jolean (Dean) Muir and Debbie (Gordon) Askvig; granddaughters, Angell (Marc) Burnett and Melodi (Kevin) Knight; nine wonderful great-grandkids and three wonderful great-great-grandkids; siblings, George and Effie; Floyd, Jean and Doris (Dad's siblings). She was preceded in death by Dad; granddaughter, Melissa; three brothers and three sisters. Mom had many, many friends who she loved and especially her best friend, Nancy. Everyone loved Grandma Brooks. She was a Godly example to her family and everyone who knew her. She is rejoicing in Heaven today with Dad, her granddaughter, her parents and all the family who is already there. But most of all, she is with her Lord and Saviour who she loved more than anyone. Thanks Mom for giving us life and for loving us.
