RUBY JEWEL BROWN, 82 ROCKFORD - Ruby Jewel Brown, 82, of Rockford passed away Sunday, August 10, 2014. Ruby was born November 1, 1931, in Curtis Arkansas; the daughter of Alberta and Julius Caesar Horton. Ruby was the oldest of 5 children and the wife of the late Thomas A. Brown. Ruby was a longtime member of Pilgrim Baptist Church, a Sunday school teacher, member of the Lydian's Ministry, and a member in the weekly exercise class. Ruby is pre-deceased by her late husband, Thomas Brown; her father and mother, Julius Caesar and Alberta (Goza) Horton; brothers, Julius and Michael Horton; and daughter, Sheila Waller. Ruby leaves to cherish her loving memory, sisters, Vera Forte of Rockford, IL and Marcella Allen of Mt. Pine, Ark. Ruby also leaves children, Maxwell (Angela) Brown of Arlington, TX and Sharon Turner of Chesterfield, VA. Ruby's loving family includes 9 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family members. A service to celebrate Ruby's life will be 10 a.m. Friday, August 15, at Pilgrim Baptist Church, 1703 S. Central Ave., in Rockford, with Rev. Dr. Kenneth Board officiating. Visitation for Ruby will be from 9 until 10 a.m. at the church on Friday. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
