John Dhyanchand Obituary
PALAPARTHI JOHN JAYAPRAKASH DHYANCHAND ROCKFORD - Palaparthi John Jayaprakash Dhyanchand was born on June 13, 1941, in Rajahmundry, Andhra Pradesh, India, and passed away on August 21, 2014, in Rockford. He was a simple man, yet lived a meaningful life. He was dedicated to his extended family and charitable outreach projects in the land of his birth. John was the second of five children and the son of Charles and Sylvia Palaparthi, both influential educators and humanitarians. He completed his training as an Electrical Engineer at the Engineering College, Kakinada and Postgraduate Institute, Coimbatore in India, and was the first of his family to come to the United States in 1964, to pursue doctoral work at Michigan State University in East Lansing, Mich. He moved to Rockford in 1967, to work at the Sundstrand Corporation and was the sponsor for many of his family and friends to immigrate to the United States. John married Verna K. S. Gollipalli of Rajahmundry, India on December 26, 1968, in Korrapadu, India. In 1986, John and members of his family fulfilled his dream of helping suffering people in India by building the Christian Cancer Centre Hospital in Kakinada, India. In 1989, he started an orphanage/vocational training school in Peddapuram, India called Hope Village. He officially retired from Sundstrand in 2005, with many patents to his credit. John enjoyed science, engineering, politics, sports, and family, especially his grandchildren. He was an extraordinarily generous individual of both time and financial resources. He enjoyed his Rockford friends and was an active member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church. He joined Our Savior's in 1967, because it was the "first Lutheran church he found while walking east from his apartment on Rockford Ave. and up Rural St." He is survived by his wife, Verna Dhyanchand, Rockford; sons, Charles Dhyanchand, MD, North Canton, OH and Richard Dhyanchand, MD, Lancaster, WI; siblings, Mary Sagar, Jackson, MS, Rhoda Eda, Kakinada, India, Sarah Rajasekhar, Melbourne, FL, and Silas Charles, MD, Melbourne, FL; grandchildren, Natalie and Oliver Dhyanchand, North Canton, OH, and Isaac, Evy, and Margot Dhyanchand, Lancaster, WI. He was preceded in death by father, Palaparthi Charles (1968) and mother, Palaparthi Hope Sylvia Charles (2012). He will always be loved and revered by his family and friends. Funeral service will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 24, 2014, in Our Savior's Lutheran Church, 3300 Rural St., with Pastor Jeff Fricke officiating. Visitation from 2 to 2:45 p.m. prior to the service in the church. Memorials may be made to Christian Cancer Center of Kakinada, India, Attn: Marta Fiol, 2861 Locksley Rd., Melbourne, FL 32935, or 321-426-5145.
