LOWELL P. SALBERG, 79 PROFESSIONAL MUSICIAN, TEACHER AND AVIATION ENTHUSIAST ROCKFORD - Lowell P. Salberg, 79, died Friday, Oct. 30, 2009, in his home. Born Jan. 8, 1930, in Chicago, the son of Paul F. and Therese M. (Hansen) Salberg. Married the former Merilyn J. Johnson in Rockford, on June 16, 1951; she died March 21, 1997. Veteran of the U.S. Navy, and graduated with a master's degree in music from Northwestern University. Former teacher with the Rockford School District for 26 years. Lowell was an accomplished musician who enjoyed sharing his gift with others, and an aviation enthusiast. Survivors include son, Barry (Audrey) Salberg; grandsons, Chris and Ryan Salberg, all of Rockford; sister, Beverly Maki of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; sister-in-law, Mary Salberg of Grayslake; and numerous nieces and nephews. Many thanks to all his special friends, whose company he enjoyed and also his "Flying Friends," who kept him young. Memorial service at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, in Sundberg Funeral Home Ltd., 215 N.
