Bernard Neff, 79 ROCKFORD - Bernard Neff, 79, died June 2, 2009, at Lee's Summit, Mo. "Bernie" was born July 10, 1929, in Centerville, Iowa, lived most of his early years in Rockford and graduated from Rockford's East High School in 1948. From 1951 to 1953, he served with the U.S. Army Engineers in California and Korea. In February 1957, he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from University of Illinois. After many years as advertising manager for Logli Supermarkets, he became manager of printing and graphics for Illinois State Board of Education in Springfield. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Elizabeth "Jean" Neff; children, Jill (Ron) Shipley of Jonesboro, Ark., Jacqueline Neff of Barcelona, Spain, Barry (Tina) Neff of Willow Park, Texas and Benjamin Neff of Springfield; five grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and brothers, Clifton (Gail) Neff of Winnebago and Charles (Kay) Neff of Burlington, Wis. He will be buried with his mother, Frona Neff, whose service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, July 9, in Julian-Poorman-Welte Funeral Home.
